How it works

Tap record and start talking. Pause when you need to think and resume the same recording; Spec can auto-stop when you go quiet. Speech-to-text runs on your iPhone, so your audio and transcript never leave the device. When you're finished, tap Refine and choose your output — Spec sends the transcript text to our Claude AI service, which rewrites your notes into a structured document. Review it, make edits, and send it straight from the native Mail composer or export a PDF.

Privacy and trust

Recording and speech-to-text run on your iPhone using Apple's on-device frameworks — your audio and transcript stay on the device and are never collected. There's no account and no login; an anonymous, device-generated identifier authenticates the refinement call. Only the transcript text is sent, over an encrypted connection, to our Claude AI service to generate your document, and it is processed for that one request and not retained or linked to you. No ads, no personal data, and we never sell or train on your content. All payments are handled by Apple through StoreKit — the app never sees your payment details.
