Why Slate
Slate is training wheels for short films. Most people have an idea for something they'd love to film but no idea how to break it into shots, what to point the camera at, or how to put the pieces together afterward. Slate handles all three. You brainstorm an idea, the app turns it into a numbered storyboard, the camera walks you through filming each shot one at a time, and when you're done it stitches everything into a finished short.
What you can do
Start by describing the film you want to make. Slate turns that concept into a numbered shot list — a storyboard you can follow. Then the camera takes over: it shows you one shot at a time with the storyboard overlaid as a guide, so you always know what you're filming and why. Shoot each shot, and when the list is complete Slate assembles them into a finished short ready to export and share. A bundled sample project lets you see the whole flow — storyboard, capture, assemble, export — without shooting anything.
Privacy and trust
Your video never leaves your device. Filming and assembly happen on-device with AVFoundation; only the text — your film concept and the generated storyboard — is sent to the backend for the AI steps. Your account email and user id are collected only to sign you in. No tracking, no ads.
Slate Pro
Your first complete film — brainstorm, storyboard, film, and export — is free. Creating additional films unlocks with Slate Pro, an auto-renewable subscription at $6.99/month or $39.99/year. Filming and exporting an already-generated storyboard is never gated, so your footage is never held hostage. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; manage or cancel anytime in your Apple Account settings.
