Why Keyaway

Rentals are a marketplace. Home swap is a relationship. Keyaway is built on a single rule: if you want to stay in someone's home, you offer yours in return. No nightly rate, no service fee, no platform taking a cut of the trip. The unit of exchange is keys for keys, and that simple constraint changes everything — who shows up, how they treat the place, and what a trip feels like once you arrive.

What you can do

Keyaway opens to a planning canvas, not a scrolling feed. Type the city you want to visit and the dates you have free, and you'll see homes that line up with both. Tap any listing to read the full description, see photos, and check the host's available window. When you're ready to propose, Keyaway packages the request the right way by default: their home for your stay, your home for theirs, dates locked on both sides. One sheet, both directions.

Both members see the request in the Swaps inbox. Either side can accept, decline, or cancel — there's no "instant book," no chargeback dance, no penalty for saying no. Once you accept, the address becomes visible and the trip is yours to plan.

You can list more than one home, edit your listings, message a host directly inside the proposal, and report a listing if anything looks off. When you're done, you can delete your account from the Profile tab in two taps and everything you've created goes with it.

Built for slow travelers and home-rich people

Keyaway is built for people who'd rather spend three weeks in one neighborhood than three nights in three cities. Teachers on summer break, remote workers between projects, retired couples on long trips, families during school holidays. If you have a home that sits empty when you travel — or a guest suite that's quiet most weekends — Keyaway turns that empty space into someone else's once-in-a-lifetime trip, and yours into theirs.

Privacy and trust

Keyaway is a member-to-member network, not a hotel. Be clear-eyed about what that means: we don't run background checks, we don't verify identity, and we don't insure your stay. The swap is between you and the other member, and you decide whether to go ahead.

What Keyaway does do is build the product so the decision is yours to make carefully:

  • Your exact address is kept off public maps and listing pages. It's revealed only after both sides have accepted a swap.
  • Hosting a listing requires you to acknowledge the legal basics on every home — lease and HOA terms, short-term-rental laws in your city, your own insurance situation, whether you have cameras, vehicles, or pets in the swap.
  • Accepting a swap requires you to read and acknowledge that you're handing over keys to a member, not a screened guest, and that the rules are between the two of you.
  • Sign-in uses one-time email codes — no passwords to leak, lose, or reuse.
  • Account deletion is a two-tap path on the Profile screen and removes your listings, swap requests, and account permanently.

If you're not comfortable with member-to-member terms, a hotel is the better tool. If you are, Keyaway gives you the cleanest version of it.

Available on iPhone and the web

Keyaway is free on the App Store and free in the browser. Both surfaces talk to the same account, so a listing you draft on your laptop shows up on your phone, and a swap proposal that came in while you were out is already waiting when you sit back down. No paywalls between you and a listing, no fee on any trip — just open it, list your home, plan a trip, and trade keys with someone who wants to spend their summer where you live.
